L ABORATORY S AFETY P ROGRAM

Established by OSHA this maybe expressed as a time-weighted average (TWA) limit or a ceiling exposure limit (CEL). OSHA PELs have the force of the law. Any substance that meets one of the following criteria; regulated by OSHA as a carcinogen, it is under the category “known to be a carcinogen” by National Toxicology Program, it is listed in either Group 2A or 2B by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). The airborne concentration of a substance which represents conditions under which it is believed that nearly all workers may be repeatedly exposed day after day (for eight hours each day) without adverse effects.

5.
R OLES AND R ESPONSIBILITIES 5.1 Manager shall:
5.1.1 Ensure that the requirements of this Program are followed. 5.1.2 Ensure that recordkeeping requirements are adhered to as described by this Program. 5.1.3 In consultation with HSSE, specify the controls necessary to minimize employee exposure to potentially harmful contaminants and selects the appropriate protective equipment. 5.1.4 Determine information available from the customer regarding concentrations of contaminants. 5.1.5 Obtain a Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) from the customer and adheres to that Program. Elements of a CHP are described in this Program. 5.2 Site Management shall: 5.2.1 Ensure that employees that enter laboratories are trained as outlined in this Program. 5.2.2 Ensure that employees are given needed information and training as outlined in this Program.
