Refrigerators, Freezers, Incubators, Humidity Chambers, and Transport Containers Step Action Clean on an as needed basis. All preventative maintenance will be performed by facilities as per Table 2: Preventative Maintenance Schedule .

For any equipment being monitored by facilities (e.g. refrigerator temperatures), notify them of any planned cleanings. This will account for any temperature excursions or alarms that may go off at the time. Cleaning will be performed using a 10% bleach solution. e.g. to make 1000mL, 100mL of bleach concentrate will be added to 900mL of purified water. Prepare, use, and discard on the same day. Document the prep in the appropriate equipment logbook. Cleaning of Refrigerators: Move the contents to another shelf and/or calibrated QC refrigerator. Clean the interior chamber/racks with a neutral cleaner or 10% bleach. Rinse with purified water. Dry all the surfaces. Allow the refrigerator to come to the operating temperature range. Return the contents to their appropriate shelf locations. Document the time and date of cleaning and the cleaning solutions used in the equipment logbook. Cleaning of Freezers: Move the contents to another calibrated QC freezer. If another freezer is not available, consult supervisory personnel to determine if cleaning is necessary or to perform partial cleaning. Remove excess frost with a soft brush or scraper. Place absorbent pillows in the unit to absorb excess water.
