The Future of Food Chains
UNDER PRESSURE
Such reliance on this model has amplified the impact of supply chain pressures and contributed to availability and pricing issues within the UK. Existing supply chain models within the UK, and a reliance on imports has left the UK exposed to a reater extent than other countries. Furthermore, disaggregated food chains create issues around transparency for increased reporting around sustainability. In order to mitigate against these issues, the UK must rapidly re-evaluate and innovate food supply chains. We believe that by differentiating the flow of products based on their supply chain characteristics it is feasible to unlock greater agility, enhance risk management procedures and reduce the impact of supply chain shocks with greater end-to-end resiliency. In assessing product flow in this manner, opportunities can be leveraged in buying gains, store storage optimisation, network optimisation and estate cost reduction, availability & waste. However,
