3. A STRONG EDUCATIONAL BASE
Łódź has significant educational potential, which translates into good availability of skilled labour both in Łódź and in the Łódź province. The growing numbers of university graduates and various professionals form a large pool of potential job candidates. Łódź is one of Poland’s key academic centres - it has 19 higher education institutions (7 state and 12 private universities) and 30 R&D institutions. Its student population is more than 75,000, including nearly 3,500 foreign students, with approximately 17,500 graduating with a diploma every year. The Łódź municipality is actively encouraging graduates and young workers to settle down in the city and to tie their future to this region. Its programme “Young People in Łódź” supports Łódź students and graduates in their career progression and local entrepreneurs and investors in attracting high-skilled labour.

The combination of Łódź’s central location, rapid improvements to its transport infrastructure, including its orbital route and ring road, as well as the growing urban infrastructure have significantly improved the quality of living in the city and added to its appeal in the eyes of its inhabitants and entrepreneurs. Extensive transport connections, road upgrades and further infrastructure projects have considerably improved travelling and cut journey times between Łódź and other destinations within the region and Poland. Proximity to international airports (Łódź, Warsaw Okęcie, Modlin, and Radom) provides easier access to holiday destinations in practically every region of Europe and the world, in addition to improving the convenience of business trips. It takes no more than 30 minutes by car to get into the centre of Łódź from any part of the city, which compares favourably to other Polish cities.
