JURONG-CLEMENTI TOWN COUNCIL (JCTC)
in the GreenPrint project, was introduced for the first time in Singapore to a sizeable part of a matured HDB estate. The benefits derived would be a cleaner environment and reducing the use of manual labour for refuse collection. Another initiative is the use of solar photovoltaic panels which were installed on the rooftops to help harness clean energy for daily usage. The installed capacities of the solar photovoltaic panels at the Jurong precincts are 132 kWp.
Jurong-Clementi Town Council (Clementi comes under Jurong Town Council in 2015) manages the 80,304 residential housing units and 2,758 commercial, retail and hawker units within Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and Yuhua Single Member Constituency (SMC).Since its inception, the Town Council has been working closely with the Members of Parliament, community leaders, Residents’ Committees of Jurong GRC as well as various other stakeholder agencies to enhance the living environment of our residents. Emphasis is also placed on engaging the residents to cultivate greater involvement and participation in the shaping of Jurong GRC to ensure that the residents’ needs are met. JCTC has also focused on green living initiatives since 2007.
ENERGY MANAGEMENT & GREEN INITIATIVES
In 2011, the Jurong Town Council was awarded the BCA Green Mark Gold PLUS rating in recognition of its achievement in embracing sustainable solutions in township management. In November 2015, Jurong- Clementi Town Council received another accolade, the BCA Green Mark Award (Platinum) for the HDB GreenPrint Project. The Cash for Trash programme is another well received initiative where residents are encouraged to trade in their recyclable items for cash. With the setting up of recycling stations at convenient locations across Jurong Town, this project, which started in 2007, has amassed almost 8 million kilograms worth of recyclables. BEST CLEANER AWARDS Incentive award programme ‘The Best Cleaner Awards’ is organised by Jurong Town Council as an annual campaign to provide recognition and incentives to our cleaners for their hard work rendered over the past one year in keeping the housing estates clean. A total of 88 cleaners are selected from the nominations submitted by the residents of Jurong GRC and Yuhua SMC . TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION - ITOWN@SG JCTC is one of 12 Town Councils implementing the iTown@SG initiative. iTown@SG is a free mobile application developed to better serve and connect with residents. Residents can submit their feedback on maintenance issues with photos immediately via the app, and it will be automatically routed to the respective Town Councils for follow up.
C&W Services initiated the first LED lighting retrofit project in township. Jurong Town Council is the first township in Singapore to retrofit all its 110,000 - 24.5W conventional fluorescent lamps at public corridors, staircases and void decks with 12W LED lamps. The potential energy savings reached up to 50%, about S$1.13 million in electricity bills per annum. The longer lasting LED lamps also realised savings on maintenance and replacement costs. C&W Services provided the turnkey LED retrofitting solution, including feasibility study, pilot test, supply, installation and project management.
HDB Greenprint is a comprehensive and integrated framework of goals and strategies to guide greener HDB town
development, and create sustainable homes. Our team at Jurong-Clementi Town Council was privileged to partner our client and HDB in piloting the unique GreenPrint project at Yuhua estate in Jurong East, where 38 blocks of flats were transformed into a ‘Green Neighbourhood’.
