Self Storage Performance Index Self-Storage Performance Index ® - The SSPI measures the changes in net operating income, taking into consideration changes in asking rents, physical occupancy and concessions, as well as operating expenses. It is therefore a reliable and unbiased way of measuring the changes in self-storage’s operating performance. Each quarter, the Index is reset to reflect the latest changes in expenses from the prior quarter.

Comment on SSP Index:

The U.S. Self-Storage Performance Index ® (SSPI) decreased 4.6% in the 4 th Quarter 2019 compared to last quarter, and is down 5.3% from last year. The SSPI for the 4 th Quarter ending December 31, 2019 now stands at 127.4 down 4.6% from the prior quarter’s index (1), and down 5.3% from the 4 th Quarter 2018.

Note (1) The SSPI value for the 3 rd Quarter 2019 was projected to be 135.0 based on projected operating expenses and pending receipt of actual expenditures for the 3 rd Quarter 2019. The final index value of 133.5 is used in the tables and graphs contained herein.
