Reimagining Cities-Disrupting the Urban Doom Loop
More research is required. As noted previously, every city and WalkUP is unique. Each one is going to need to assess its specific situation and create realistic goals for the future. This analysis continues a conversation about the future of cities, but it only includes 15 cities and 208 WalkUPs, all of which are in the U.S. Opportunity exists for continued research that: • Expands the sample size of cities and WalkUPs. Expanding the research to t he largest 35 U.S. metropolitan areas (which account for just under 60% of U.S. GDP and 50% of the U.S. population) would be recommended. • Explores urbanizing suburbs (Suburban
Town Centers, Redevelopment of DriveINs and Green/Brownfield Redevelopments).
• Expands the research to local-serving walkable urban neighborhoods—many times that were started as streetcar communities. These neighborhoods are revitalizing in literally every city in the country without much understanding around why it is taking place.
