PREPARING FOR DAY ONE

CONSIDERATIONS -APPLYING THE GUIDELINES Routing (circulation): In order to maintain social distancing recommendations, applying one-way directional paths will be most effective. The following three examples demonstrate how the requirements are met in different building configurations. Example 1: This largely open floor plan has primary and secondary paths that need to be marked for unidirectional travel. It may be helpful to create natural barriers that support intended movement. There are a number of intersection points that will need to be managed by the occupants. As in most plans, pinch points occur at elevator lobbies, bathrooms, and other common spaces. These will be most crucial to manage with signage to reinforce paths.

Example 2: In this plan, the high percentage of enclosed offices creates a more natural primary circulation path. The elevator lobby has doors on each side, as does the pantry, which reinforce the clockwise pathway. In this case, the workstations are proposed to add plexiglass shields to eliminate conflict with people walking in the corridor. The small corridor to the bathrooms will have to be managed by users to ensure social distancing can be maintained with in/out traffic.
