ELYSE’S FIRST bird LOVE Y ellow-Crowned A mazon When I was about 3 years old a yellow- crowned Amazon parrot flew into my grandparents’ home in Berbice, Guyana and landed on my father’s shoulder. My cousins fed the parrot and he, of course, refused to leave. My father decided that he would bring the bird back to the United States as a pet for me and my 4 siblings. The parrot repeatedly said “Robert”, which we named him. Whenever we came home from school Robert would greet us at the door singing “Hello, hello, hello”. He would then climb onto my shoulder and watch as I did my homework. Robert was an incredible pet who went everywhere we went, repeated everything at the appropriate time and even did not mind when we dressed him up for Halloween. My love of the yellow-crowned Amazon started with Robert and I hope to own another parrot in the future.
