AM LAW 100 FIRM TEST CASE #3 FIRM #3 PAIN POINTS: In 2006, this firm was at the mid-ranking on the AM Law 200 List. The firm had two-hundred (200) attorneys with ambitious growth goals throughout the U.S. The firm’s real estate at the time occupied predominately Class “B” properties, with office space that did not align with the brand the firm was trying to convey to potential attorney recruits and clients. Simply stated, their real estate was hindering their business goals and objectives to take this firm to the AM Law 100 list and achieve their aggressive growth goals. C&W’S SOLUTION: Over the course of the next ten (10) years, with C&W as their national advisors, the firm focused all their efforts on relocating and opening new offices only in Class A/Trophy buildings, located in premier parts of every city, and on the top floors or highest floors available in a building. By utilizing real estate as a vehicle to re-brand this firm’s image, they grew to over eight hundred (800) attorneys (and are still growing), achieving a solid footing on the AM Law 100 list in less than seven (7) years. Some additional successes that were achieved for the firm are as follows: • Firm-wide per square footage ratios of under six hundred (600) square feet per attorney; • Single-size offices for all attorneys; • Workplace design focusing on the “we” space and less about the “me” space; • Expanded technology and training implemented to better service clients & operations; • Standardized furniture with deeply discounted national purchasing contracts, and; • Standardized design in all locations – branding this firm in each location with the same “look”.
