L ABORATORY S AFETY P ROGRAM

1. I NTRODUCTION The safety policy mandates a safe, healthful environment for its employees, customers and visitors. HSSE ensures that all company policies and state and federal mandates are followed. HSSE has developed the Laboratory Safety Program to define administrative responsibilities, accepted safety guidelines and Programs, proper laboratory facilities, safety equipment, emergency procedures, exposure monitoring, training and recordkeeping requirements. This plan is based on applicable health and safety Programs promulgated by Federal and State agencies including OSHA’s Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories. 2. P URPOSE The purpose of this Program is to establish requirements for employees that may enter customer laboratories. 3. S COPE /A PPLICABILITY

ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists)

4.1

Organization of professionals in government agencies or educational institutions engaged in occupational safety and health programs. ACGIH develops and publishes recommended occupational exposure limits for chemical substances and physical agents (see TLV and BEI). Concentration for a specific substance, calculated as an eight-hour time weighted average, which initiates certain required activities such as exposure monitoring and medical surveillance. Levels of determinants in specimens from a healthy worker who has been exposed to chemicals. A reference value for biological monitoring. A written Program developed and implemented by the employer which sets forth procedures, equipment, personal protective equipment, and work practices that are capable of protecting employees from the health hazards presented by hazardous chemicals used in that particular workplace. Our customer should have an appropriate Chemical Hygiene Plan for our use.
