L ABORATORY S AFETY P ROGRAM

 Always follow special posted PPE requirements for a particular lab.  Always verify that equipment has been decontaminated via some sort of permit Program prior to working on the equipment. This verification typically includes review of a permit or other documentation stating the equipment has been decontaminated.  Personnel should only work on equipment they have been trained to use.  Do not eat, drink, smoke, chew gum or apply cosmetics in a lab.  Always wash hands and exposed skin after leaving a lab.  Do not smell or taste chemicals.  Be aware of sharp hazards. Do not touch any broken glass or reach into any garbage container. Call the lab owner for cleanup and decontamination of broken equipment before working.

6.4.3 Employee information, training and Facility evaluations 6.4.3.1 The Site Manager must obtain information regarding laboratory hazards. This information is used to inform and train our employees regarding the hazards of chemicals present in their work areas. The company provides our employees with appropriate training regarding hazards of chemicals present in their work areas. Information and training are provided at the time of the employee’s initial assignment to a work area where hazards are present and prior to assignments involving new exposure situations.

6.4.4 Employee Information

6.4.4.1 Employees shall be informed of:  The contents of the CHP.

 The location and availability of the CHP.  The action levels or PELs for OSHA regulated substances or recommended exposure limits for other hazardous chemicals where there is no applicable OSHA regulation.  Signs and symptoms associated with exposures to hazardous chemicals used in the laboratory.  The location and availability of known reference material on the hazards, safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals found in the laboratory including, but not limited to, Safety Data Sheets received from the supplier.  Contact information for specific questions related to a particular laboratory area.
